Your Chengdu 3-day itinerary is quite packed and covers many highlights, but there are a few points to consider to optimize your route and make travel via public transport more efficient.
Day 1:
- Arriving at 8:30 am and checking in may take 1–2 hours depending on airport transfer, so plan your first site accordingly.
- People's Park is a great start for a relaxing introduction to Chengdu. Kuanzhai Alley is nearby, making it convenient for the afternoon.
- Quixinglou Street is a bit further and less central; you might consider combining it with Kuanzhai Alley as they are relatively close, otherwise it may feel rushed.
Day 2:
- The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is outside the city center. Take an early metro + taxi or dedicated shuttle to maximize time with the pandas in the morning.
- For the afternoon, Chunxi Street, Taikoo Li, and IFS are all clustered, which is efficient for shopping and dining.
- Daci Temple and Hongya Cave are in separate areas; you could prioritize one depending on your walking capacity and interest. Hongya Cave is more of a scenic riverside area, while Daci Temple is quieter and spiritual.
Day 3:
- Shan Cheng Bu Dao Old Town (mountain city walking path), 十三梯, and 解放碑 are traditionally Chongqing landmarks. These are not in Chengdu. If you meant local Chengdu walking areas, consider visiting Wuhou Shrine and Jinli Ancient Street in the morning.
- Jinli and Wuhou Shrine are adjacent, making them easy to combine.
- If you still want a scenic walking route, consider the nearby Wide and Narrow Alleys or People’s Park extension rather than the Chongqing-based paths.
Additional suggestions:
- Try to group nearby attractions each day to reduce time spent on public transport.
- Check the panda base opening times; mornings are best as pandas are more active.
- Public transport is efficient in Chengdu, but taxis may save time if your schedule is tight, especially with older travelers or kids.
Overall, your itinerary is good but removing any mislocated Chongqing spots and grouping attractions by proximity will make the 3 days more relaxed and enjoyable.
