US SIM card questions.

Debating between Fidis roam like home of buying a US SIM card. We will use data, maybe text but not a phone. Will need to log on to Ticketmaster for tickets we have purchased as well. Which SIM card is recommended in Las Vegas for visitors. Where should we purchase this.

Thank you.

When visiting Las Vegas, there are several options for purchasing a SIM card or using international roaming. Since you mentioned you will need data and possibly text, but not phone service, here are the most common options for visitors:

1. US Prepaid SIM Cards for Tourists

  • T-Mobile Prepaid SIM: T-Mobile offers affordable prepaid SIM cards with unlimited data options. You can get a 10GB data plan for around $40, which is great for streaming, navigation, and browsing. T-Mobile has great coverage in Las Vegas, and you can pick up the SIM at major retail locations like Best Buy or authorized T-Mobile stores around the city. The plans also come with unlimited texting to most countries, but note that calls may be limited.
  • AT&T Prepaid SIM: AT&T is another popular choice with good coverage in Las Vegas. They offer prepaid plans that include data and text, such as a $30 plan for 8GB of data. You can buy a SIM card from AT&T stores in Las Vegas or at authorized retailers like Walmart and Target.
  • Mint Mobile: Mint Mobile is known for offering budget-friendly plans with good data options. You can get a 3GB plan for as low as $15, which is great for light usage (data + texting). You can order a SIM online and have it shipped to your hotel, or buy one from stores like Walmart. Coverage in Las Vegas is solid since Mint uses T-Mobile’s network.

2. Roaming Services (e.g., Fido’s Roam Like Home)

  • Fido Roam Like Home: If you already have a Fido plan and you’re Canadian, Fido’s Roam Like Home service could be a good option. This allows you to use your regular data, text, and calling plan for a daily fee (typically around $10 per day). It’s convenient because it uses your current phone number and plan, but it can be expensive if you’re staying for a longer period.
  • Roaming may also be an option if you are with other providers like Telus or Rogers. However, do check the roaming charges as they can be more expensive than purchasing a local SIM card.

3. Where to Buy Your SIM Card in Las Vegas

  • Airport: You can purchase a SIM card when you arrive at McCarran International Airport. There are kiosks and stores such as T-Mobile, AT&T, and other retailers selling prepaid SIM cards.
  • Retail Stores: Once in Las Vegas, you can easily find stores for T-Mobile, AT&T, and other retailers. Walmart, Target, and Best Buy are all options that sell SIM cards and prepaid plans. These stores are common and easily accessible in Las Vegas.
  • Online Order: If you prefer convenience, you can order a SIM card online from Mint Mobile or T-Mobile and have it shipped to your hotel in advance. This eliminates the need to search for a store upon arrival.

Which SIM Card is Recommended for You?

  • If you’re only going to use data and texting (no phone calls), I recommend checking out T-Mobile or Mint Mobile as they provide affordable data options and good coverage in Las Vegas.
  • If you want a more extensive plan or prefer to stick with a major US provider, AT&T could also be a great option, though it may be slightly more expensive.
  • Fido’s Roam Like Home can be convenient if you want to use your Canadian plan, but it may not be the most cost-effective option for a longer stay.

Regardless of the option you choose, make sure to check whether the SIM card supports the frequency bands used in the US to ensure compatibility. Also, double-check whether your phone is unlocked so it can accept a new SIM card.
