Any companies that provide snuba tours on oahu?
We called snuba oahu but they aren't offering snuba tours anymore. Does any know of any company that does offer snuba? We prefer it to scuba diving. Thanks.
Good question. I searched for companies that still offer SNUBA-style tours on Oʻahu (Hawaii, HI). Unfortunately, as of now, there is very limited availability, and no large, well-known operator seems to be actively advertising traditional SNUBA tours (i.e., using a surface raft with an air line) on Oʻahu — but there are some related alternatives, plus one small operator.
Here’s what I found, and what your best options likely are:
- Honolulu SNUBA Adventures – This is probably the closest to what you’re looking for. They explicitly describe SNUBA on their website, saying you breathe via a regulator connected to a tank on a raft on the surface, allowing you to dive down to ~ 20 ft.
- They operate in Hanauma Bay, which is on Oʻahu.
- The price is listed at $169 per guest, plus the Hanauma Bay nature park admission (around $25).
- They require no prior scuba certification, making this appealing if you prefer something easier than diving.
- Trident Adventures / Hawaii Scuba Diving & Snorkel Adventures – While Trident is best known for snorkel and scuba tours, they do offer an underwater scooter (“Diver Propulsion Vehicle”) tour as an upgrade on their snorkeling cruises.
- This is *not* SNUBA, technically — but riding a scooter gives you a similar experience of going underwater, with less gear than scuba.
- Their Waikiki Turtle Snorkel & Underwater Scooter Tour includes an option to use that scooter.
- Island Water Sports Hawaii – They do “sub-marine scooters,” which again are not SNUBA but offer an underwater ride / viewing experience.
- No scuba or SNUBA certification required.
- They emphasize that participants can glide along and see marine life while riding their eco-friendly underwater scooters.
Important caveats and notes:
- I found a reference to SNUBA Tours of Kauai, but that is on a different island (Kauaʻi), so not directly helpful for Oʻahu.
- There is a historical reference to SNUBA being offered at the *Pacific Beach Hotel Oceanarium* in Waikiki, from older sources. However, I found no evidence that this is currently running.
- According to a marketing list, a SNUBA site was once listed at “Marine Express … Pacific Beach Hotel – The Oceanarium, Honolulu, Oahu, HI.”
- Also, some SNUBA-type diving operations elsewhere in the islands (e.g., Kona) are currently suspended. For example, the SNUBA operation of HI Adventure Tours (on the Big Island) is “closed until further notice.”
Bottom line / recommendation:
- Your best bet for *traditional SNUBA* on Oʻahu appears to be Honolulu SNUBA Adventures in Hanauma Bay. Call them (or email) in advance to check availability, since SNUBA trips may be limited.
- If SNUBA itself is not available or doesn't work out, consider the underwater scooter tours with Trident Adventures or Island Water Sports — these give a somewhat similar feel of being underwater, without needing scuba gear.
- When booking, double-check with the tour operator whether they are actually running SNUBA (or scooter) on the date you plan to go — things change over time, and what was offered before may not always be active.
