Multiday charter in November

Anyone have suggestions for liveaboard charter to visit the Channel Islands? Prefer powerboat. We don’t mind the cooler temps for the tradeoff of fewer tourists in November. We're interested in hiking, possibly kayaking if weather permits. Thanks!

Visiting the Channel Islands on a liveaboard powerboat in November is a fantastic idea, especially for hiking and kayaking with fewer crowds. November is cooler and more unpredictable in terms of weather, so be prepared for variable sea conditions and bring layers for warmth and wind protection.

For a multiday liveaboard experience, here are some considerations and recommendations:

  • Types of Charters: Most multiday trips to the Channel Islands depart from Ventura, Oxnard, or Santa Barbara. Powerboat liveaboards are less common than sailboats but are available with specialized operators.
  • Hiking Opportunities: Each island has unique trails. Santa Cruz Island offers scenic hikes like the Cavern Point Loop and Scorpion Canyon. Anacapa Island has shorter trails with stunning cliffside views. Santa Rosa Island has more remote hiking opportunities but may be limited due to permits.
  • Kayaking Options: Many charters provide kayaks for shore excursions if weather and sea conditions permit. November may limit kayaking due to rougher seas, so flexibility is essential.
  • Wildlife Viewing: November is good for spotting sea lions, harbor seals, and migratory birds. You may also see gray whales passing by.

Some reputable operators for multiday powerboat charters include:

  • Channel Islands Adventure Company – offers private and small group liveaboard trips with hiking and optional kayaking.
  • Island Packers – primarily known for day trips, but occasionally arranges extended trips with hiking-focused itineraries.
  • Private charter operators based in Ventura or Santa Barbara – some specialize in custom multiday trips with cabins for overnight stays, often providing meals and guided hikes.

Tips for planning your trip:

  • Book well in advance, even for November, as liveaboard slots are limited.
  • Check weather forecasts and be prepared for cancellations or rough sea days.
  • Bring layered clothing, waterproof gear, and sturdy hiking shoes.
  • Confirm whether meals, camping gear (if needed), and kayaking equipment are included in the charter.

Overall, a November multiday charter to the Channel Islands can be peaceful, scenic, and rewarding, giving you the chance to explore the islands with fewer tourists and enjoy the natural beauty and wildlife up close.
