Visiting soon
This isn’t really a question but we will be visiting for the second time over Spring Break (March 24-27). We just might be a little too early to see the cherry blossoms but it will be fun to see the monuments once again! The first time we visited we did a lot of things, saw a lot of stuff for 10 days, but we are just having a chill vacation this time around.
We do plan on eating at China Chilcano for some Peruvian food one evening but would love to have dinner at the Wharf area on our first evening. What restaurants would have a fantastic view around there? (Ok there IS the question! 😂)
The Wharf in Washington DC is a lively waterfront area with a great mix of restaurants, bars, and entertainment. Since your visit is during Spring Break and you’re looking for a relaxing first evening with fantastic views, there are several options that combine good food with scenery of the Potomac River.
Restaurants with Scenic Views at the Wharf
- Officina — This Italian-inspired spot has both indoor and outdoor seating with water views. The rooftop bar is particularly nice at sunset, offering panoramic views of the waterfront and city skyline.
- Hank’s Oyster Bar (The Wharf location) — Casual seafood with a vibrant atmosphere. Some seating offers views of the marina and boats, making it a fun and lively first stop.
- Del Mar — Upscale Spanish seafood and tapas with large windows facing the water. Known for its fresh seafood and elegant presentation, it’s great for a slightly more formal first night.
- Mi Vida — Rooftop dining with Mexican-inspired cuisine. Excellent for sunset cocktails and enjoying the panoramic river views. It’s lively but still relaxed enough for a chill evening.
- Vola’s Dockside Grill — Classic waterfront casual dining with a large deck over the water. Less formal than Del Mar or Officina but excellent for seeing boats and the river activity.
Tips for Visiting The Wharf
- Make reservations if possible, especially for rooftops or popular spots, as Spring Break can attract more visitors.
- Plan to arrive before sunset to get the best seating with unobstructed river views.
- If you prefer a quieter vibe, indoor seating with floor-to-ceiling windows can still provide great views without the bustling deck environment.
- Consider a post-dinner walk along the waterfront promenade — the lights on the docks and bridges create a lovely atmosphere at night.
Since you also have China Chilcano on your itinerary for another evening, you could start your trip with The Wharf for a scenic, relaxed first night and enjoy your Peruvian dinner mid-week or whenever you feel like exploring another DC neighborhood.
