Hotel recommendations

We have a game this fall at Clovis East High school. What hotel do you recommend staying at that is close and in a nice area. We sometimes stay at one of the hotels near River Park in Fresno with mall and restaurants nesrby. Is there something else that you might recommend? We usually stay at Hilton or Marriott but also could stay at La Quinta or Holiday Inn. Thank you!

Clovis East High School is at 2940 N Leonard Ave, Clovis, CA — that puts you in the northeastern part of Clovis, just a short drive from the River Park / Herndon Avenue corridor in Fresno and from the cluster of hotels on Shaw / Clovis Avenue.

If you want to stay close and in a “nice area” with easy restaurants and shopping nearby, you have two good strategies: (A) stay in Clovis proper near Pollasky/Clovis Avenue for the quickest drive to the school, or (B) stay in the River Park / Fig Garden / Shaw Avenue area of Fresno if you prefer more restaurant and mall options (this is what you’ve used before). Both are 10–20 minutes from Clovis East depending on traffic.

Below are hotel picks in both areas, with a short note on why each is a good fit for a high-school game weekend (comfort, chains you mentioned, and nearby dining).

  • Courtyard Fresno / Clovis (Marriott) — Clovis

Newer, full-service Marriott option in Clovis with on-site dining and easy access to local restaurants. Good choice if you prefer Marriott brands and want to be very close to Clovis East.

  • Hilton Garden Inn Clovis

Hilton property in Clovis with reliable rooms, pool, and breakfast options — convenient for families and close to the high school. Good if you prefer Hilton.

  • Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Fresno/Clovis

Comfortable mid-range Marriott-brand hotel inside Clovis with simple breakfast, free parking and easy access to local dining. Often a good value for game weekends.

  • La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Clovis

Budget-friendly chain you mentioned; typically clean, with breakfast and parking. A solid pick if you want a no-frills, dependable stay close to schools and fields.

  • Hampton Inn & Suites Clovis-Airport North

Another strong chain choice with good breakfasts and pool—handy if you want a slightly quieter spot that’s still close to Clovis amenities.

  • Holiday Inn Express & Suites Fresno (River Park) — River Park area

If you prefer River Park (mall/restaurants nearby), this Holiday Inn Express sits right in that corridor and gives you easy access to shopping and dining before or after the game. Great if your usual habit of staying near River Park is working for you.

  • Comfort Suites / TownePlace Suites / Hyatt Place — River Park / Shaw corridor

These brands cluster around River Park and Fig Garden — good midrange options with suites (helpful for families), restaurants nearby, and short drives to Clovis East (typically ~10–20 minutes). TownePlace and Hyatt Place are especially handy if you want a bit more space.

Which to pick based on priorities

  • Closest to Clovis East / shortest drive: Courtyard Fresno/Clovis, Hilton Garden Inn Clovis, Fairfield Inn & Suites Clovis. These put you in town and minimize drive time to the school.
  • Best restaurant/shopping options (post-game dinner): River Park hotels (Holiday Inn Express River Park, Hyatt Place, TownePlace/Fairfield near River Park). Great if you want lots of dining choices and a mall nearby.
  • Chain preference (Hilton/Marriott): Hilton Garden Inn Clovis or Hampton Inn (Hilton family) and Courtyard/Fairfield (Marriott family) cover your preferred brands in Clovis.

Practical tips for game weekends

  • Book early — Clovis games and tournaments often fill nearby hotels quickly on Friday/Saturday nights.
  • Ask about late-check-in and shuttle options (some hotels will drop you off/pick up locally if you request ahead of time).
  • If parking at the high school is limited for big events, staying in Clovis (not far away) keeps you flexible and reduces the chance of long shuttles.
