Valid China Visa in old passport

Hello thank you very much if anyone can clarify my situation.

I have a Valid China Visa in my old expired/damaged passport. Then i have been issued a new passport as replacement. Questions. To enter China do I need to apply a new Visa for the new passport? Or i can use the visa in the old passport? I am holding Indonesian passport.

Thank you for your help

If you hold a valid Chinese visa in your old passport and have since obtained a new passport, you do not need to apply for a new visa, provided you carry both the old and new passports when entering China. This is standard practice for most travelers, including Indonesian passport holders.

Here are the key points to ensure a smooth entry:

  • Your old passport with the valid visa must be presented alongside your new passport at the Chinese immigration checkpoint.
  • The visa in the old passport remains valid until its expiration date, regardless of your old passport being expired or damaged.
  • Immigration officials will link your visa to your new passport, so both documents are required for inspection.

Additional tips:

  • Make sure the visa in the old passport is still clearly legible. Excessive damage may raise questions at the border.
  • Carry photocopies or digital scans of both passports as a backup in case of any issues.
  • If traveling internationally beyond China, check if other countries require the old passport with the visa for transit purposes.

In summary, you can enter China with your new passport as long as you bring your old passport containing the valid Chinese visa. No new visa application is necessary in this scenario.
