Miami Airport taxi Vs taxi App
Family of 3 visiting Miami soon and we will need to get from Airport to hotel in Brickell. I don't currently use a taxi app but I'm willing to try it. Do people use multiple apps to find the nearest available driver? Any recommendation for which apps are good in Miami?
Getting from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Brickell is straightforward, and you have several options for taxis and rideshare apps. For a family of three, comfort and price will likely be your main considerations.
Traditional Airport Taxis:
Miami Airport has a regulated taxi system with a flat fare to Brickell (roughly $35–$45 depending on traffic). The airport taxi stand is clearly marked on the arrivals level. Taxis can accommodate luggage easily and you don’t need an app or prior booking.
Rideshare Apps:
Using rideshare apps is often cheaper or more convenient, especially if you prefer cashless transactions. Most visitors use either Uber or Lyft, and some also use Bolt. Here are the details:
- Uber: Widely used in Miami. Multiple ride options are available, from UberX (affordable) to UberXL (larger vehicles for families or more luggage). Uber operates directly from designated pickup areas at MIA.
- Lyft: Also very popular and similar pricing to Uber. Pickup points are near the same areas as Uber, and the app allows you to see wait times and pricing before requesting a ride.
- Bolt: Less common but available in Miami. Can sometimes offer competitive rates if Uber and Lyft surge pricing is high.
Tips for Using Taxi Apps in Miami:
- You can install multiple apps (Uber, Lyft, Bolt) to compare wait times and prices. Sometimes one app has a driver closer or lower price at that moment.
- For a family with luggage, make sure to select UberXL or Lyft XL if needed; regular sedans may be tight with three passengers and suitcases.
- Follow airport signage to the designated rideshare pickup areas—they are clearly marked. Do not attempt to hail rides from the curb outside arrivals, as airport security may direct you to the designated area.
- Check estimated fare before confirming the ride. Miami traffic can affect pricing during peak hours.
Recommendation:
- If you prefer a fixed, predictable fare without installing apps, use the traditional taxi stand.
- If you are comfortable with apps and want to potentially save a few dollars or see estimated arrival times, use Uber or Lyft. Having both installed gives flexibility in case one has surge pricing or longer wait times.
- For a family of three with luggage, UberXL or Lyft XL is recommended for comfort.
In summary, both airport taxis and rideshare apps are reliable. Using apps like Uber or Lyft is convenient and allows you to compare prices, while traditional taxis offer a guaranteed flat fare and easy curbside access.
