Miami hotel recommendations
Cruising out of port of Miami in August. Looking for recommendations for a hotel for a night pre cruise. Looking for something that is in between Miami Airport and cruise port. Possibly with airport shuttle service. If possible around the 200.00 a night range.
Great question — finding a budget-friendly hotel in Miami that’s conveniently located between MIA (Miami International Airport) and PortMiami, with shuttle options, can be a smart strategy for a pre-cruise stay. Here are some solid recommendations in or around your ~$200/night budget (or close), plus pros and things to watch out for.
- Comfort Suites Miami Airport North (Miami Springs) — One of the top budget-friendly options. According to cruise-hotel guides, this hotel offers a free airport shuttle and a free (or very low cost) shuttle to PortMiami. Prices are often in the $120–180 range.
- La Quinta Inn & Suites – Miami Airport East — Very conveniently located near the airport. According to listings, they have a free airport shuttle and a shuttle to the cruise port (or arrange via them), with nightly rates often in the $110–170 range.
- Hampton Inn & Suites – Miami Airport South / Blue Lagoon — This Hampton Inn has a solid reputation, with free breakfast, airport shuttle, and a shuttle to PortMiami (though it's through a “Stay & Cruise” package or for a small fee). Their pricing is often under $200 depending on dates.
- Ramada by Wyndham Miami Springs / MIA — A very budget-friendly pick. According to hotel-shuttle guides, they offer a free airport shuttle, and a shuttle to the cruise port for around $12–15/person. Great for value and convenience if you don’t mind a moderate-tier hotel.
- Holiday Inn Express & Suites – Miami Airport / Doral Area — Slightly farther but still practical. According to cruise-hotel listings, they run shuttles to PortMiami (for a fee). Their location gives a quieter feel, and the rates often hit your ~$200 target depending on the timing.
Tips for Booking & Shuttle Use:
- Reserve the shuttle in advance: Many hotels ask that you book your port-transfer shuttle when you check in, or even in advance, because seating is limited.
- Compare total cost: Sometimes the “shuttle-included” hotel isn’t much cheaper than a hotel + Uber, especially for a small group. Several cruisers note Uber might be a better value depending on your party size.
- Check pick-up times: Make sure the shuttle times align with your cruise embarkation schedule — not all hotels have frequent early morning departures.
- Ask about parking: If you’re leaving a car, some hotels offer “park & cruise” packages, which might be more economical when combined with your room and shuttle.
My Recommendation: Given your budget and priorities, the Comfort Suites Miami Airport North or Hampton Inn Blue Lagoon are likely your best bets. They both balance price, shuttle convenience, and basic amenities nicely – and they’ll put you in a comfortable spot to head to the port the next morning without stress.
