Rides that need lockers

Hi,

Is there a list of rides that need lockers at Disney and Universal somewhere? Are they free?

Thanks

Both Disney and Universal have certain rides where you must store bags, loose items, or belongings in lockers. This is primarily for safety reasons, especially on thrill rides, water rides, and attractions with high speeds or inversions.

Disney World: Lockers are required for many rides at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. Most commonly, water rides or roller coasters require lockers.

  • Examples at Magic Kingdom: Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain (loose items not allowed on coaster)
  • Examples at EPCOT: Test Track, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (lockers for loose items)
  • Examples at Hollywood Studios: Slinky Dog Dash, Tower of Terror, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster
  • Examples at Animal Kingdom: Expedition Everest, Avatar Flight of Passage (smaller lockers available at Pandora)

Disney lockers are available for rent near the rides. Prices generally range from $10–$15 per day for small lockers and up to $15–$20 for larger lockers. Many rides also have “on-ride” small lockers or free storage for smaller items, but these are limited.

Universal Orlando: Lockers are required for most thrill rides and water rides, especially in Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida.

  • Examples at Islands of Adventure: The Incredible Hulk Coaster, Jurassic World VelociCoaster, Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls, Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges, Jurassic Park River Adventure
  • Examples at Universal Studios: Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, Revenge of the Mummy, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts

Universal lockers are available at the ride entrances. They usually charge around $2–$5 per locker for single use (some rides have hourly rates or day passes). For water rides, lockers may be required per person and are often small but sufficient for wallets, phones, and keys.

Tips:

  • Always check the ride description on the official app or website; it will indicate if lockers are required.
  • Lockers are almost always optional for smaller items but mandatory if you have loose bags, strollers, or backpacks.
  • Consider packing minimal items for thrill rides to avoid locker fees.
  • At Disney, some rides may allow you to hold smaller personal items in a “pocket” or garment, but most water rides will require a waterproof locker.

In short, lockers are not free at Disney or Universal, but they are easy to rent at or near the ride entrance. Fees vary depending on size, duration, and park.
