Coronado to Petco Park

Hello to all,

I will be visiting in September, staying at the Coronado Hotel. Has anyone taken the bus from Coronado to Petco Park, if yes, was it worth it or should we take a taxi? Sometimes the taxis will charge outrageous fees on game days. The parking at Petco is $50 so would like to avoid that expense if the bus is reasonable.

Thank you!

Traveling from Coronado to Petco Park for a game day can be done via bus, taxi, rideshare, or even biking, depending on your priorities for cost, convenience, and time. Here’s a breakdown to help you decide:

Bus/Public Transit: Coronado is served by the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS). On game days, there are buses and the Coronado Ferry, which connects to downtown San Diego near the Gaslamp Quarter. From there, it’s a short walk to Petco Park. Using public transit can save money and avoid the $50 game day parking fee, but it may take longer than a taxi or rideshare.

  • Pros: Affordable, avoids high parking fees, predictable schedule on MTS apps.
  • Cons: Can be crowded on game days, may involve walking from the bus stop or ferry dock to the stadium.
  • Tip: Plan to leave extra time—arriving 60–90 minutes before the game is wise if taking public transit.

Taxi or Rideshare: Taking a taxi or rideshare (Uber/Lyft) from Coronado directly to Petco Park is fast and convenient. However, during game days, surge pricing is common, which can make this option significantly more expensive than normal rates.

  • Pros: Direct, comfortable, no walking from transit stops.
  • Cons: Expensive during peak game times, may encounter traffic delays.
  • Tip: Book ahead if possible or check estimated surge pricing before deciding.

Alternative Options:

  • Biking: If you enjoy biking, Coronado has bike paths along the bay. You can bike to downtown San Diego and park your bike at Petco Park bike racks, though this may take 30–40 minutes.
  • Ferry + Walk: Take the Coronado Ferry to downtown San Diego and walk 10–15 minutes to Petco Park. It’s scenic, avoids traffic, and provides some exercise.

Overall, if you want to save money and don’t mind a little extra time and walking, the bus or ferry plus walk is a good choice. If convenience and direct access are your priority, a taxi or rideshare is better, but expect higher costs on game day.
