Victoria Harbor and nearby attractions
Dear All
On the day of our arrival post our lunch we want to explore Victoria harbor and nearby attractions including the star ferry, symphony of lights, avenue of stars. Any suggestions on how to plan this activity
Warm Regards
Exploring Victoria Harbour and its nearby attractions is a great way to spend an afternoon and evening in Hong Kong. Since you plan to start after lunch, you can organize a smooth route that combines sightseeing, walking, and taking in the iconic views.
Suggested plan:
- Start at Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade: After lunch, head to the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront. From here, you get a stunning view of the Hong Kong Island skyline across Victoria Harbour. It’s a good spot for photos and to begin your walk along the promenade.
- Avenue of Stars: Walk along the Avenue of Stars, which celebrates Hong Kong cinema. You can see handprints of famous actors and enjoy more harbour views. The walk is leisurely and provides plenty of photo opportunities.
- Star Ferry: Take the historic Star Ferry from Tsim Sha Tsui to Central or Wan Chai. The short ride (about 10 minutes) offers an excellent perspective of the skyline from the water, and it’s an inexpensive way to experience Victoria Harbour.
- Explore Central or Wan Chai: If you disembark in Central, you can stroll along the Central Harbourfront or visit the IFC Mall for shops and cafes. In Wan Chai, consider a short walk along the promenade or explore local streets for a glimpse of daily Hong Kong life.
- Symphony of Lights: Return to Tsim Sha Tsui in the evening to watch the Symphony of Lights show, which starts at 8 PM daily. The best viewing is from the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront or the Star Ferry pier. The show features synchronized lights and lasers on the skyscrapers of both sides of the harbour.
Additional tips:
- Wear comfortable walking shoes, as you will be walking along promenades and piers.
- Check the weather forecast; if it’s windy or rainy, the Star Ferry and promenade can be less comfortable.
- Bring a small camera or smartphone with good low-light capability for evening shots of the skyline during the Symphony of Lights.
- If time allows, consider taking the Peak Tram in the late afternoon for a panoramic view of the city before returning to the harbour for the evening light show.
- Plan transport in advance: MTR stations are close to all the major points, and taxis are available if needed to save time.
This plan allows you to enjoy the iconic harbour views, experience the historic Star Ferry, explore the Avenue of Stars, and finish with the nightly Symphony of Lights show, all in a relaxed, post-lunch itinerary.
