Airport to Aki MGallery
Our flight arrives at 9:40pm and wonder about the best/least expensive way to get from the airport to the Aki MGallery hotel. Had hoped to use Grab but see now that doesn’t work in Hong Kong. Is a taxi our best option?
Arriving at Hong Kong Airport at 9:40pm means your options for getting to the Aki MGallery hotel in Kowloon are slightly limited, but there are still several convenient choices. Since Grab and other ride-hailing apps are not available in Hong Kong, you will need to rely on taxis, public transport, or pre-booked private transfers.
Here are the main options:
- Taxi: Taxis are available 24/7 at Hong Kong International Airport. A taxi ride to Kowloon generally takes 30–40 minutes depending on traffic and costs around HK$300–400 (roughly US$38–50). Airport taxis are color-coded: red taxis serve most of Hong Kong including Kowloon, so make sure to take a red one.
- Airport Express + Shuttle/Taxi: The Airport Express train runs until around midnight. From the airport, take the train to Kowloon Station (approx. 21 minutes), then use the complimentary Airport Express shuttle bus or a short taxi ride to the Aki MGallery hotel. This can be slightly cheaper than a direct taxi, but with luggage and late arrival, a direct taxi may be more convenient.
- Pre-booked private transfer: Some companies allow you to reserve a private car or van in advance. This guarantees a driver waiting at the arrivals hall and can be more convenient with luggage and late-night arrival, but it will usually cost more than a regular taxi.
Given your late arrival, taking a red taxi directly from the airport to the hotel is likely the simplest and least stressful option, even if slightly more expensive than using public transport. Make sure to have the hotel address written in Chinese in case the driver doesn’t speak English.
Additional tips:
- Keep cash ready, although most taxis accept Octopus cards or credit cards.
- Expect some traffic delays on Friday or weekend nights, so budget extra time if you have urgent plans.
- If traveling with lots of luggage or family members, consider a taxi with extra space or a pre-booked private car for comfort.
