NFR Rodeo 2025: Mandalay Bay or MGM Grand?
I've got ticket/hotel package quotes for these 2 hotels for the NFR for December 9-12. We love the MB but MGM is less expensive and closer to the Thomas & Mack, so I'm assuming it will be less of a ride on the NFR shuttle. Is that correct? NFR fans, please share your thoughts! There will be 4 of us in our 60's and it won't be our first rodeo ;) but it will be our first NFR. Thanks for your advice!
Both Mandalay Bay (MB) and MGM Grand are great hotels for your NFR (National Finals Rodeo) experience, but each offers a slightly different experience when it comes to convenience, cost, and atmosphere. Here's a breakdown to help you make a more informed decision:
Mandalay Bay:
- Atmosphere: Mandalay Bay offers a more resort-like atmosphere with luxury amenities, including a large pool area, a variety of dining options, and a beautiful beachfront vibe (though it’s indoors). It’s known for its spacious rooms and overall high-end feel. If you’re looking for a bit of a retreat to relax before or after the rodeo, this is a solid option.
- Proximity to NFR: While Mandalay Bay is not as close to the Thomas & Mack Center (home to the NFR), the NFR shuttle service does run from the hotel, so you won’t have to worry about transportation. The shuttle ride from MB is a bit longer compared to MGM, but it’s still relatively convenient.
- Experience: Mandalay Bay has a lively, yet relaxed vibe compared to other Vegas properties, making it a great choice if you want to stay in a resort-like setting with easy access to the Strip, while not being right in the middle of all the action.
MGM Grand:
- Atmosphere: The MGM Grand is one of the largest hotels in Las Vegas and has a high-energy atmosphere, which might appeal more to those looking for a vibrant, lively vibe. It’s an iconic hotel with plenty of entertainment options, restaurants, and a casino, making it an exciting place to stay during your trip. However, it might be a little more crowded compared to Mandalay Bay.
- Proximity to NFR: The MGM Grand is closer to the Thomas & Mack Center, making it more convenient in terms of distance for the rodeo. This means the shuttle ride from MGM to the NFR will be shorter, and you'll have less of a wait compared to Mandalay Bay. If minimizing travel time to the NFR is important, this could be a key factor.
- Cost: As you mentioned, MGM Grand tends to be more affordable than Mandalay Bay, so if you're looking to save some money without sacrificing too much comfort, MGM might be the better choice financially.
Which to Choose?
- If you’re looking for a more relaxing, resort-style atmosphere and don’t mind the slightly longer shuttle ride, Mandalay Bay is a fantastic option with a beautiful setting and top-notch amenities.
- If being closer to the NFR venue (Thomas & Mack Center) is more important and you want to save a bit of money, MGM Grand might be the better choice for its shorter shuttle ride and more budget-friendly price point.
Since this will be your first NFR experience, both hotels offer unique benefits, so it really comes down to what type of experience you want. Either way, you’ll be in close proximity to all the excitement of the NFR, and both hotels are solid choices for your stay!
