ORD luggage storage

We have an 8 hour daytime layover and I see there is no luggage storage at ORD. Is there any luggage storage device nearby that we can get to in the blue line?

Unfortunately, O'Hare International Airport (ORD) itself no longer offers luggage storage services, as the previous service has been discontinued. However, there are still a few convenient options near the airport where you can store your luggage, and most of them are accessible via the Blue Line or a short transit. Here are some suggestions:

1. Luggage Storage Services in Downtown Chicago

If you're willing to take the Blue Line into downtown Chicago, there are several luggage storage services available in the city. These services allow you to drop off your bags for a few hours and explore the city without the hassle of carrying your luggage around. Many of these locations are situated within walking distance from popular tourist spots and transportation hubs.

  • LuggageHero - LuggageHero is a popular luggage storage service that partners with local businesses like cafes and shops in Chicago. You can find multiple locations downtown, and they allow for flexible, hourly or daily storage. Some locations are easily accessible from the Blue Line.
  • Bounce - Similar to LuggageHero, Bounce offers luggage storage at local businesses, and you can find several spots around the city. You can reserve a spot ahead of time through their app or website.
  • Stasher - Stasher partners with local hotels and businesses to provide luggage storage options. Many of their locations are central and can be accessed via public transport, including the Blue Line.

2. Union Station Luggage Storage

If you’re specifically looking for a storage facility that’s easy to access via the Blue Line, another option is Union Station. The station is a major transit hub in Chicago, and it offers luggage storage through services like Luggage Storage Chicago. From O'Hare, you can take the Blue Line directly to the station (it’s about a 30-minute ride), and from there, you can store your luggage before exploring the city.

3. Hotel Luggage Storage

If you happen to be staying at a hotel near the Blue Line, you can also ask the hotel if they offer luggage storage services. Many hotels will allow non-guests to store their luggage for a fee. It’s worth calling ahead to see if any hotels in the area offer this service.

4. Time & Cost Considerations

  • Storage costs for services like LuggageHero, Bounce, and Stasher typically range from $5 to $10 per bag per day.
  • Traveling from ORD to downtown Chicago via the Blue Line takes approximately 40-45 minutes one way, and the cost of a one-way ticket is $5.

In summary, while there’s no luggage storage directly at O'Hare anymore, there are several reliable options near the Blue Line that will allow you to store your bags for a few hours or for the duration of your layover. Make sure to check the availability and booking details ahead of time for a smoother experience.
