last minute trip needs Poipu condo May 23rd to May 26
Daughter and husband are planning a last minute trip before husband starts a new job on 6/2. he gave his notice at his current job and was told to leave right away instead of waiting 2 weeks. They will be on North side from May18th through 23rd. The place is not available after that so they decided to move south for the rest of the time. Would like help narrowing down the complexes they should look at. They are at Hanalei Bay resort up north. Is some place in Poipu that has nice ocean front pool area comparatively? Budget up to $500 at night. I have also rented a house so I don't really have knowledge of Kauai condo communities.
For a last-minute stay in Poipu from May 23rd to May 26th with a budget up to $500 per night, there are several condo complexes that offer oceanfront access, nice pool areas, and are generally family-friendly or suitable for couples. Poipu is well known for its sunny weather, beautiful beaches, and convenient amenities.
Here are some good options to consider:
- Pono Kai Resort: Oceanfront location right on Poipu Beach. The resort has a nice pool area and is walking distance to the coastal path for easy beach access. Units are simple but comfortable, and the complex is smaller, which gives it a more relaxed vibe.
- Nihi Kai Villas: A bit more upscale, also oceanfront. Pool area is great, and the location is convenient for walking to nearby beaches. Units are modern and well-appointed, some with ocean views. Great for snorkeling and relaxing by the pool.
- Kiahuna Plantation Resort: Large property with beautiful landscaping, pools, and oceanfront access. Some units are right on the beach, and the resort feels more spacious. Good mix of families and couples.
- Poipu Shores: Ocean-adjacent with a pool area, just steps from the beach. Offers comfortable condo units and a quieter environment than some of the larger resorts.
Other considerations:
- Check VRBO, Airbnb, and local property management sites for last-minute availability. Sometimes smaller owners at places like Pono Kai or Nihi Kai list their units directly and may offer discounts for short notice bookings.
- Confirm whether the unit is oceanfront versus just ocean-adjacent, as some condos are slightly inland and may not have direct beach views.
- Pool areas can vary; some complexes have larger communal pools, while others have smaller, quieter pools. Decide if a larger pool area is important for your daughter and husband’s enjoyment.
Overall, for someone moving from Hanalei Bay on the North Shore, Nihi Kai Villas or Pono Kai would provide a more central Poipu experience with easy beach access and good pool amenities, keeping within the budget. Book quickly, as May is a popular time and last-minute availability can be limited.
