First time coming to Maine we could fly into Portland or Banger, what would you suggest we love walking to restaurants, shopping and little towns, Where would you guys suggest to stay, We were looking for beginning of september, thanks
Welcome to Maine! It's an absolutely beautiful state, and you're sure to enjoy your first visit. The beginning of September is a fantastic time to visit — the summer crowds start to thin out, but the weather is still warm and perfect for exploring. As for flying into Portland or Bangor, here are some thoughts on both options:
Portland: Portland is a fantastic choice, especially if you love walking to restaurants, shopping, and exploring quaint little towns. The city has a vibrant food scene (famous for its seafood) and a walkable downtown area filled with charming shops, galleries, and restaurants. The Old Port area, with its cobblestone streets, is one of the best places for dining and shopping. You can easily spend a day strolling around, enjoying the waterfront, or taking a harbor cruise.
Why Portland?
Bangor: Bangor is a bit farther inland, and while it’s a charming small town, it doesn’t have the same level of walkability or coastal vibe that Portland offers. Bangor is great for exploring Maine’s history (check out the Stephen King House and the Maine Discovery Museum), but it’s not as lively for dining and shopping compared to Portland. However, if you’re looking for a more relaxed, small-town feel, Bangor might be worth considering.
Why Bangor?
Best Areas to Stay:
In summary, if you love the idea of walking to restaurants, enjoying a lively coastal city, and exploring quaint shops and galleries, Portland is your best bet. However, if you prefer a quieter, less touristy spot, Bangor might suit you better. Either way, you’ll be able to explore Maine’s beautiful scenery, delicious food, and charming atmosphere!
