Accommodations in Avila

Looking for local accommodations in Avila or nearby for a family of 4 in July, open to hotel or AirBnB/VRBO (2 adults and 2 kids under 6). We would stay for 2-3 nights. Here is our wish list:

- We would preferably like two adjoining rooms or a place with two separate sleeping areas/rooms.

- Nice/luxurious for adults but fun for kids (activities, or water slides, or something special like animals, horses, fruit picking, etc).

- Walkable to local attractions/restaurants

Thank you in advance!

Avila Beach and the surrounding San Luis Obispo County offer a mix of boutique hotels, resorts, and vacation rentals that can accommodate families with young children. For a 2-3 night stay in July, here are some options and tips to consider based on your wish list.

Hotel/Resort Options:

  • Avila La Fonda Hotel: A charming boutique hotel within walking distance to the beach and local restaurants. They have some suites with separate sleeping areas that can work for families. While it doesn’t have water slides, it’s comfortable for adults and close to kid-friendly attractions like the beach and nearby parks.
  • Beachfront resorts near Avila: Some resorts just outside the main village offer rooms with two beds or suites, small pools, and beach access. Ideal for families who want easy beach access and minimal driving.
  • Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort: Located a few minutes inland from Avila Beach, this resort has larger suites and some villas that can accommodate families. Adults can enjoy hot mineral springs, while kids have open spaces to explore. They sometimes have packages with local activities.

Vacation Rentals (Airbnb/VRBO):

  • Look for homes or condos labeled as “family-friendly” or “2-bedroom” with options for two separate sleeping areas. Many are walking distance to the beach or downtown Avila.
  • Some rentals come with private patios, small pools, or access to community pools. Certain properties are close to attractions like animal farms, fruit picking farms, and parks that young kids enjoy.
  • Check for kid amenities like high chairs, cribs, or play areas in the listing details.

Activities & Nearby Attractions:

  • Avila Beach Pier and Waterfront: Gentle beach for kids to play, tide pools, and easy walking access to restaurants.
  • Bob Jones City to the Sea Trail: Family-friendly walking and biking trail along the coast.
  • Nearby farms and orchards: Some offer fruit picking or small petting areas.
  • San Luis Obispo attractions: Less than 15 minutes away by car, including the San Luis Obispo Children’s Museum and small local parks.

Tips for Booking:

  • Book early for July as Avila Beach is a popular summer destination and accommodations fill quickly.
  • Specify that you need two separate sleeping areas or adjoining rooms when reserving hotels or resorts.
  • Consider vacation rentals for more flexibility with family space, kitchen use, and kid-friendly features.

Overall, for a balance of comfort, kid-friendly features, and walkability to attractions, a combination of boutique hotels or vacation rentals with 2-bedroom layouts near the beach will work best for your family.
