Less Crowded Beach

I am visiting Tampa in July and will be taking a day trip to AMI. Looking for the least crowded beach recs in that area. I have an autistic son who does much better with less people around in unfamiliar environments. Thank you in advance.

Anna Maria Island is popular for its beaches, but there are still quieter spots if you know where to go, which can make a day trip much more enjoyable for someone who prefers less crowded areas. July is a peak month, so even quieter beaches can have visitors, but some areas tend to remain calmer than others.

Less Crowded Beach Options on Anna Maria Island:

  • Bean Point – Located at the northern tip of the island, Bean Point is much less crowded than the central beaches. It’s great for walking, shell collecting, and has wide open sand areas, so your son will have space to move around without too many people nearby.
  • Coquina Beach – While this is technically on the southern end of the island near Bradenton Beach, it has large open areas and tends to feel more spacious. Weekdays are quieter, and there’s parking available.
  • Northern Public Beach Access points (north of Anna Maria City) – There are a few small public access points along Gulf Drive north of Anna Maria city. These are less frequented and offer more privacy and space for families.

Additional Tips:

  • Arrive early in the morning, especially during July, as beaches fill quickly by mid-morning.
  • Bring snacks, water, and sun protection, since less crowded beaches may have fewer amenities.
  • Consider weekday visits rather than weekends, as weekends attract more locals and tourists.
  • Look for beaches with longer stretches of sand so your son can walk or play with minimal interaction with other beachgoers.

Overall, Bean Point is widely considered the quietest area on Anna Maria Island, but exploring northern access points can also give you a calm and enjoyable beach experience for your family.
