Restaurant recs near Chicago Architecture Center

Looking for dinner recommendations near the intersection of Wacker & Michigan. We'll be wrapping up a late-afternoon architecture boat tour and looking for somewhere to walk to eat. Open to anything, any price point is fine, just not a chain and probably not a pizza-only place as we are having pizza the night before. Thanks!

The intersection of Wacker Drive and Michigan Avenue puts you right in the heart of Chicago’s Loop, just a short walk from the Chicago River and many dining options that cater to both locals and visitors. Since you’re finishing a late-afternoon architecture boat tour, it’s convenient to choose somewhere within a 5–10 minute walk along the river or nearby streets. Here are some excellent options:

  • Riva Crabhouse: Located right on the riverwalk, Riva is known for its seafood, steaks, and scenic river views. Great for a relaxed dinner with classic American fare.
  • Giordano’s (River North location is nearby, but avoid if you had pizza recently): Famous deep-dish, but since you’ve already done pizza, probably skip this one.
  • Trattoria No. 10: Upscale Italian cuisine with fresh pasta and seafood, just a short walk off Michigan Avenue.
  • The Gage: A refined gastropub with a variety of American dishes, including hearty meat and seafood options, located across from Millennium Park.
  • Quartino Ristorante & Wine Bar: A lively spot offering Italian small plates, perfect for sharing and sampling different flavors, about 5–7 minutes’ walk.
  • Mercat a la Planxa: A Spanish-inspired restaurant serving tapas, seafood, and unique dishes. Excellent for trying something different and sharing plates.

Tips:

  • Check if reservations are possible, especially for later dinner hours, since many Loop restaurants can get busy after 6–7pm.
  • Consider walking along the riverwalk; you may spot several small, riverside bistros and bars that are casual yet offer great views of the river and architecture.
  • If you’re interested in a lively atmosphere, Quartino or The Gage provide energy without feeling too touristy.

Overall, for convenience and a quality dining experience without repeating pizza, Riva Crabhouse or The Gage are solid choices directly along your walking route from the boat tour.
