Chongqing - Half day Plan

How Practical is it to do following

- Ciqikou

- Jiefangbei Area

- Kuixing Tower

- Dinner @ Yitianmen Street, Nan'An

- Hongya Cave

We arrive and depart from Chongqing-West station

Attempting to cover Ciqikou, Jiefangbei, Kuixing Tower, Hongya Cave, and have dinner at Yitianmen Street in Nan'An in a half-day is technically possible but will be very rushed, especially considering you are arriving and departing from Chongqing West Station. Traffic in Chongqing can be heavy, and many of these locations are not within walking distance of each other.

Here’s a breakdown:

  • Ciqikou: This is a historic town with pedestrian streets and is worth at least 1–1.5 hours to stroll, enjoy snacks, and take photos. It’s located about 30–40 minutes by taxi from central Chongqing.
  • Jiefangbei Area: The city center with shopping, landmarks, and modern urban streets. From Ciqikou, it takes roughly 25–35 minutes by taxi depending on traffic. You could spend 30–45 minutes here for a quick walk/photo stop.
  • Kuixing Tower: A small historic tower near Jiefangbei, can be visited in 15–20 minutes, ideally combined with your Jiefangbei stop.
  • Hongya Cave: Famous for its stilted buildings along the river. From Jiefangbei, it’s only about a 5–10 minute walk. You can spend 30–45 minutes exploring and taking photos.
  • Yitianmen Street, Nan'An: This is across the river in Nan’An district. To get there, you will need to either take a taxi (~20–30 minutes depending on traffic) or the metro (~30 minutes with transfer). Dining there could take 1–1.5 hours depending on the restaurant.

Practical tips:

  • It is highly recommended to hire a private car or use taxis rather than public transport if you want to cover all locations in a single half-day.
  • Consider skipping Yitianmen Street if your schedule is tight, as crossing the river can add time.
  • Start from Ciqikou first, then head to Jiefangbei/Kuixing Tower, then Hongya Cave. Finish with dinner if time allows.
  • Keep in mind that arriving and departing from Chongqing West Station adds about 40–50 minutes each way to your total travel time.

Overall, while doable, the plan is tight and leaves little room for leisurely exploration. If possible, extending to a full day or dropping one location will make the experience much more enjoyable.
