Boat tours
We are three senior women in our seventies wanting to see Lake Powell area by boat- not a really long tour, but great scenery with photo opportunities. We prefer slower and smaller. Recommendations?
For a scenic and relaxing boat tour of Lake Powell, especially for a small group of senior travelers, there are several options that focus on comfort, photo opportunities, and a slower pace rather than a high-speed or crowded experience. Lake Powell is famous for its stunning red rock canyons, calm coves, and clear waters, so a smaller, slower boat is ideal for photography and a relaxed outing.
Recommended Boat Tours
- Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas – Glen Canyon Boat Tours: They offer a variety of guided tours from the Wahweap Marina in Page, including shorter 1.5–2 hour tours through scenic canyons. Small boats are available and often less crowded. These tours are guided, so you get interesting historical and geological commentary as you go.
- Antelope Point Marina – Private or Semi-Private Tours: They provide smaller boats for private groups, which means you can set a relaxed pace, stop frequently for photos, and avoid crowds. The scenery along the Upper Lake, including Rainbow Bridge (if you choose the longer route), is spectacular.
- Blue Sky Boat Rentals – Guided Small Group Tours: Offers options for smaller parties, with attentive captains who can slow down for photos and sightseeing. Tours typically explore side canyons, cliffs, and hidden coves, giving excellent opportunities for photography and wildlife spotting.
Tips for Senior Travelers
- Book a private or semi-private tour to avoid the larger, crowded tour boats.
- Choose a morning or late afternoon tour to avoid the midday heat, especially in summer months.
- Bring sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and plenty of water.
- Ask the operator in advance about walking or boarding requirements—some tours have small steps and moderate boarding, but staff usually assist.
- Bring a small camera tripod or a stable surface for your phone or camera to capture the best photos on the moving boat.
Overall, a 1.5–2 hour private or semi-private tour from either Wahweap Marina or Antelope Point will provide breathtaking scenery, slow-paced cruising, and plenty of opportunities for memorable photos without being physically demanding.
