Rose Bowl concerts and Transportation
Hey Guys,
we are going to the Oasis concert in early September (Sat night) with our 6 and 10 Year olds and I have a couple of questions.
1 We are staying at the Courtyard by Marriott Pasadena/Old Town on the Saturday night, whats the best options for getting to and from the concert (I would rather not drive if possible). Im guessing Uber there from the hotel wont be an issue, but more worried about after when there are 10s of thousands of people departing at once.
2 My wife would like to stay the Friday night as well, so we can look around the city, Any hotels you would recommend for kids ? i looked at Langham but not sure we would use all the facilities .
Thanks in advance
Attending a Rose Bowl concert with kids can be a lot of fun, but planning transportation and accommodations ahead of time will make the experience much smoother.
1. Getting to and from the Rose Bowl
For your Saturday night Oasis concert, driving yourself is generally not recommended because traffic and parking are very congested before and after events. Since you prefer not to drive, here are some options:
- Uber/Lyft: Going to the concert from your hotel should be fine, but returning immediately afterward can be tricky due to the surge in rideshare demand. Expect long wait times. If you can, plan to leave a bit earlier from the concert or use the app to request a ride in advance if the feature is available.
- Rose Bowl Shuttle: Many hotels and event organizers offer shuttle service to and from the Rose Bowl. Check if your hotel partners with a shuttle service. These shuttles usually pick up and drop off at designated locations and can be a stress-free way to avoid post-concert traffic.
- Public Transit: Metro Gold Line to the Lake Avenue or Memorial Park stations, then connecting via shuttle, is possible. However, with young kids, this may be less convenient due to walking and timing considerations.
- Hotel Proximity: Staying at Courtyard by Marriott Pasadena/Old Town is good because it’s only a few miles from the stadium, so a short Uber/Lyft ride is feasible if planned carefully.
2. Hotel recommendations for Friday night in Pasadena (kid-friendly)
If you want to explore Pasadena with your kids and stay somewhere comfortable for families, here are some options:
- Courtyard by Marriott Pasadena/Old Town: Already convenient for your Saturday night plan, and kid-friendly rooms are available. Central location for walking around Old Town Pasadena.
- Residence Inn by Marriott Pasadena: Offers suites with kitchens, which is great for families with kids. Comfortable, and also near Old Town.
- Fairfield Inn & Suites Pasadena/Old Town: Smaller and budget-friendly, includes breakfast which is handy for kids. Close walking distance to shops and restaurants in Old Town.
- The Langham Huntington: Luxurious and has pools and gardens, but as you noted, you may not use all facilities with young kids. It’s more of a resort-style stay, which could be relaxing but perhaps overkill if staying just for the night.
Overall, for convenience and kid-friendliness, staying near Old Town Pasadena is best. You’ll have plenty of dining options, quick access to the Rose Bowl, and a safe walkable area for exploring with your 6 and 10 year olds. For transportation back from the concert, consider either leaving slightly before the mass exit or checking if a hotel shuttle can be pre-booked to minimize wait times for Uber/Lyft.
