Kaanapali Trolley

Hello all, I am in the beginning stages of planning a retirement trip to Maui, thinking of staying at Kaanapali Alii. How far is the walk from the Alii to the nearest trolley stop? I have knee issues and even short walks hurt. We will have a car, but I want to see the cliff diving at the Sheraton. The trolley seems more convenient than driving and parking if the walk is within my limitations. Thanks.

Kaanapali Alii is conveniently located along the Kaanapali beachfront, which is serviced by the Kaanapali Trolley. The trolley stops are spread out along the resort corridor, making it fairly accessible for guests staying in the area.

From Kaanapali Alii to the nearest trolley stop, the walk is usually about 5–10 minutes along paved paths that run parallel to the beach. The walk is mostly flat, but since you mentioned knee issues, even this short distance could be noticeable. Fortunately, the resort area is generally well-maintained, with shaded spots and benches along the way if you need to rest.

Regarding convenience for sightseeing:

  • The trolley provides easy access to major points along Kaanapali Beach, including the cliff diving at the Sheraton Black Rock area.
  • Since you have a car, you could combine driving and trolley rides to reduce walking. Parking near the Sheraton is available if you choose to drive directly for the cliff diving view.
  • The trolley frequency varies but generally runs every 15–30 minutes, which allows flexibility without long waits.

Additional tips to minimize strain on your knees:

  • Consider using a small folding scooter or walking poles if you feel the walk is too much. Some resorts allow renting mobility aids.
  • Plan your trolley trips strategically, hopping on closer to the spots you most want to visit, rather than walking the full length of the route.
  • Wear supportive shoes and take short rests along the beach path to keep the walk manageable.

Overall, Kaanapali Alii is well-positioned for trolley access, and with careful planning, you should be able to enjoy the cliff diving and other attractions without overexerting your knees.
