Seasonal Bridge over Redwood Creek on Dipsea Trail

We hope to do a one-way hike on the Dipsea Trail the week of October 20. Not sure if we're starting from Mill Valley or Stinson Beach yet. I know there is a seasonal bridge over Redwood Creek near Muir Woods Overflow parking lot on Dipsea Trail.

Does anyone know when the seasonal bridge is removed, or where I could find out?

Thanks! Leslie

The Dipsea Trail is a popular route connecting Mill Valley and Stinson Beach, and one notable feature is the seasonal bridge over Redwood Creek near the Muir Woods Overflow parking lot. This bridge is typically installed in the late spring to early summer and removed in the late fall to prepare for higher water flows during the rainy season. Exact timing can vary depending on weather conditions and creek levels for that year.

Since you are planning your hike the week of October 20, it is likely that the seasonal bridge may be in the process of being removed or already removed, depending on the local conditions and maintenance schedule.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information, you can check the following resources:

  • Marin County Parks website: They often post updates about trail conditions and seasonal bridge status.
  • Muir Woods National Monument or Visitor Center: Staff can provide information about current trail conditions and bridge availability.
  • Local hiking forums or social media groups: Hikers frequently post recent trail conditions, including whether the seasonal bridge is in place.

If the bridge has been removed by the time of your hike, you may need to be prepared for a creek crossing, which can involve wading or finding a natural crossing point. Wearing waterproof shoes and being cautious of slippery rocks is recommended.

In summary, while the bridge may still be up in mid-October, it is crucial to verify with local sources before your hike to avoid surprises and ensure safety along the Dipsea Trail.
