Is baggage wrapping service still a thing?

It's more than 10 years since I've flown domestically in mainland China so I figured i ought to check ... it used to be possible to have less secure check-in bags wrapped and/or strapped before one handed them over at the counter. Is this service still provided? I'll be flying out of SZX T3, early morning (in case a wrapping counter has limited hours).

TIA!

Baggage wrapping (plastic film wrapping) and strapping services are still available at many major airports in mainland China, including Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport (SZX), Terminal 3. These services are primarily intended to protect luggage from damage, tampering, or dirt during transit. However, availability may vary depending on the time of day, airline, and terminal traffic.

For early morning flights, here are some details and suggestions:

  • Location: Wrapping counters are usually near the check-in area or just before security. In Terminal 3, you can find these services close to the main airline check-in rows.
  • Operating hours: Most wrapping counters open early, often with the terminal, but some may not operate 24/7. For very early morning flights, it’s safer to confirm with your airline or the airport information desk beforehand.
  • Cost: Expect to pay a small fee per suitcase, usually around ¥20-50 depending on size and type of wrapping.
  • Service type: Both full plastic wrap and luggage strapping (belt) services are commonly offered. Some counters also provide both together for extra security.

Additional tips to ensure a smooth experience:

  • Arrive a little earlier than usual if you plan to use the wrapping service, especially for early morning flights.
  • If the counter is closed, check if your airline offers optional wrapping at their check-in desk.
  • Some airports have automated wrapping machines, but they may require payment in cash or a local card.

In summary, yes, baggage wrapping is still a thing at SZX T3. To be safe, arrive 60-90 minutes before your check-in cutoff to allow time for wrapping, especially if you are flying early in the morning.
