Andy's Jazz Club

I will be visiting Chicago for a few days with my husband the week of September 21. We're planning on going to Andy's Jazz Club for dinner and the early show. Has anyone been to Andy's? For the 6pm show, would a 5:45 reservation be sufficient? Or should I go with a 5:30 reservation? Also, does anyone know about the seating? Their reservation system offers seats in the main seating area, bar area, and an elevated back corner. I don't want to be pressed right up to the stage. Is the back corner a cozy little nook with a decent view of the stage? Or would I be better off just booking main seating?

Andy’s Jazz Club in Chicago is a long-standing venue known for its intimate jazz performances and classic Chicago jazz club atmosphere. Many visitors enjoy combining dinner with the early show, as it provides a full evening experience with great live music.

Reservation Timing:

  • For a 6:00 PM show, a 5:45 PM reservation is generally sufficient, especially if your party is just two people and you’re familiar with the menu. Most patrons find this gives enough time to be seated, place an order, and have a relaxed start to dinner before the music begins.
  • If you prefer a more leisurely pace or anticipate a busy evening, a 5:30 PM reservation can provide extra buffer time for ordering and dining without feeling rushed.

Seating Options:

  • Main Seating Area: These tables are centrally located and offer a direct view of the stage. Ideal if you want to feel fully immersed in the performance. Depending on the table placement, some may be closer to the stage, which can be lively but not necessarily uncomfortable.
  • Bar Area: More casual and typically less formal for dining. You can still see the stage from here, but the view may be partially obstructed and the atmosphere is more bustling with bar activity.
  • Elevated Back Corner: This area is often described as a cozy nook with an elevated perspective. You will have a clear line of sight to the stage without being right up against it. It’s a good choice for a quieter, more intimate experience while still enjoying the performance and avoiding the feeling of being “pressed” to the stage.

Overall, for a dinner-and-show experience at Andy’s, if your goal is a balance of comfort, a good view, and easy access to food service, the elevated back corner is a solid choice. Main seating works well if you want a traditional jazz club feel with the music close at hand, but be aware it might be a bit livelier and closer to the performers. The bar area is less recommended for a full dinner experience but works if you just want drinks and music.

To summarize:

  • Reservation: 5:45 PM should be sufficient; 5:30 PM gives extra time if desired.
  • Seating: Elevated back corner for a cozy, clear view; main seating for central immersion; bar area for casual experience.

Enjoying an early show with dinner at Andy’s is a classic Chicago experience, and planning your timing and seating carefully will help ensure a relaxed and enjoyable evening.
