Hotels in Pengshui

Hi, I was looking at the hotels near Chiyou jiulu, and saw that there are 2 hotels right at the entrance.

However, it seems like their bathroom wall is glass and transparent. I called to hotels to check if there are anything to cover the glass wall and they replied no.

Is it just me or it's weird to have the glass wall bathroom, especially when you are traveling with friends? Is it the norm?

I'm not sure if I understand her correct (or if they understand me) as mandarin is not very good 😊

Having a glass wall in the bathroom is increasingly common in many modern hotels across China, especially in smaller or newer boutique hotels and resorts. However, it is not universally standard, and in some cases, it can feel unusual or awkward if you are traveling with friends or family.

Here are some points to consider:

  • Many hotels install frosted or semi-opaque glass to provide privacy while still keeping a modern aesthetic, but fully transparent glass is less common.
  • Hotels catering mainly to couples often favor transparent glass, assuming guests value the design and openness.
  • In larger or more traditional hotels, bathrooms usually have solid walls or sliding doors for privacy, especially in shared rooms or family-oriented accommodations.

Since you called the hotels and confirmed that there is no covering or option to obscure the glass wall, it likely means they cater more to individual or couple travelers rather than groups of friends. If traveling with friends, this setup might feel uncomfortable.

Options to handle this situation:

  • Ask the hotel if they have other room types with traditional bathrooms or partitions.
  • Look for nearby hotels with standard bathroom layouts. Often, in smaller towns like Pengshui, alternatives may be a short distance away.
  • Consider bringing a temporary cover like a shower curtain or portable screen if staying is unavoidable, though this can be cumbersome.

In short, while glass wall bathrooms are not unusual in modern Chinese hotels, fully transparent walls without any covering are less typical and may not be comfortable for group travelers.
