Free Stream Trekking in Anji Tianhuangping

Having visited Anji several times, each trip brings new discoveries. In summer, water activities are always the highlight. Tianhuangping not only boasts the Jiangnan Tianchi but also offers free stream trekking worth experiencing. The biggest advantage of Tianhuangping's stream trekking is that it's free and hassle-free, all along a river in the town (see map for specific entry points).

✅️ Opposite Dayang Hotel
This is the uppermost section, feeling the cleanest with deep areas suitable for swimming. During our visit, locals were bathing and swimming here. If you're sensitive to heat, shaded spots by the water's edge provide relief. This spot offers the best experience, and locals often come at dusk to catch crabs. The area is teeming with small fish, so bringing a simple fishing rod makes for easy and fun fishing.
⚠️ Cars can drive right to the riverbank—no fees, and it's not crowded.

✅️ Opposite Sanyang Packaging
We arrived in the evening when locals were already out catching crabs, which looked like great fun. Though we didn’t spot any water buffaloes, the waters here are wide and open. Some areas seemed less clean, so it’s best to scout for the better spots.
⚠️ Parking is available along the road. Opposite Sanyang Packaging, stairs lead down to the river. Parking elsewhere might require a short walk, but since it’s roadside, safety is key.

✅️ Town Center River Sections
Two spots are visible while walking through town: one near Yunxi Bridge, with some sunshades, and another by the Agricultural Bank of China, where bridge arches provide shade. Both are conveniently located in town with some amenities.
⚠️ Parking is available along the town streets, but it can get quite sunny, so sun protection is a must.

We stayed at a resort hotel in town, Da Nian Chu Yi, which also had a free stream trekking spot—another great option. The stream trekking here feels wonderfully spontaneous, a natural gift of coolness.
