The Aomori Contemporary Art Center was established to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Aomori City's founding. It takes full advantage of the natural scenery at the foot of the Hakkoda Mountains and its unique architecture to offer a wide range of contemporary art programs. The center is characterized by its three main pillars: artist residency programs, exhibitions, and educational activities.

Designed by the renowned architect Tadao Ando, ACAC harmonizes with its surrounding natural environment while preserving the undulating terrain. The design theme of "invisible architecture" integrates the buildings seamlessly into the forest.

The center consists of three structures: a linear creative building reminiscent of a bridge spanning a valley, an accommodation building, and a horseshoe-shaped exhibition building. The latter houses galleries and a circular outdoor stage, making it a must-visit destination for art lovers.
