🚶♂️ Route arrangement suggestions
1️⃣【Morning】Maungarei / Mount Wellington volcano morning walk
• ⏰ Suggested time: 9:00 arrival
• 📍 Transportation suggestions: Take the train from the city center to Panmure, then take the bus to Mountain Road, about 50 minutes. Or drive directly to the Mountain Road trailhead.
• 🏞 Activity: Walk a circle of the mountain trail (about 1 hour), climb to the top of the volcanic hill, and overlook the scenery of Rangitoto, the city and the bay.
2️⃣【Noon】Lunch + Shopping at Sylvia Park Mall
• 🚗 Distance: About 5-10 minutes by car; it is also very convenient to take a bus or Uber from Mt Wellington
• 🍽 Restaurant recommendations:
• The Coffee Club / Garrison Public House (light meals or Western brunch)
• Ippudo / KiwiYo / Tank (Japanese ramen, desserts or healthy smoothies)
• 🛍 Activity suggestions:
• Take photos of the art landscape in the mall
• Simply go shopping, especially recommend New Zealand brands such as Farmers, Glassons, Briscoes, The Warehouse, etc.
3️⃣【Afternoon and evening】Watch the sunset at Maungawhau / Mount Eden
• ⏰ Suggested time: Arrive at 16:00
• 🚗 Driving time: About 15-20 minutes from Sylvia Park
• 🏞 Activities: Walk along the mountain trail, climb to the top to take pictures of the crater, feel the weathered landforms and Maori history, and watch the sky change in the whole city at dusk
• 📷 Photo spots: The wooden boardwalk on the edge of the crater and the angle overlooking the Sky Tower are the most recommended

📝 Personal experience
This route is my favorite one-day light trip in Auckland. You don’t have to commute for a long time, but you can walk through two volcanoes + a large shopping mall at one time. The landscape of Mt Wellington is very primitive and not too crowded. It is very suitable as a day starter. The air is very good in the morning.
Going to Sylvia Park at noon is very convenient whether you want to have a simple meal, drink a cup of coffee, or buy some daily necessities.
In the evening, Mt Eden is the finale. Watching the whole city slowly light up, the sunset sprinkled on the sky and the edge of the crater is really quiet. Compared with popular tourist spots, I prefer this small route that integrates the daily rhythm of local people.
