Kobe Akashi Bridge and Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall

Today, I took a train from Osaka Station to JR Maiko Station. As soon as I exited the South Exit, I saw the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. The Akashi Bridge is a crucial transportation link between Japan's Honshu and Awaji Islands. Spanning the Akashi Strait, it's currently the world's second-longest suspension bridge, at 3,911 meters. The bridge also boasts the only observation cafe on the world's largest suspension bridge! The 317-meter-long, 47-meter-high waterfront promenade runs through the bridge. The eighth-floor observation lounge features a camera system, allowing you to relax while gazing out at the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. For those seeking a thrill, I recommend walking the 47-meter-high Maruki Bridge, which has transparent glass windows. Those with a fear of the heart should consider this approach. 😅 On a clear day, you can enjoy sweeping views of Osaka Bay and the Seto Inland Sea, not only of Awaji Island. There's an observation lounge in the center. I ordered a sundae while enjoying the view.

Next to it is the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (Empathy Pavilion), with its unique, retro octagonal hall as its most distinctive symbol! The "Yiqing Pavilion," with its retro-style three-story octagonal hall as its symbol, was built as a villa by Kobe merchant Wu Jintang in 1915. It opened to the public in 984 as the "Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall," displaying materials related to Sun Yat-sen, who visited Kobe many times. It was designated a "Hyogo Prefecture Important Tangible Cultural Property" on December 10, 1993, and a "National Important Tangible Cultural Property" on November 14, 2001. Chinese manga are also available for 50 yen a copy.

See two attractions in one place—a great deal! You can also visit Kobe Nankinmachi (Kobe Chinatown) afterward!
