"Re > Birth" Exhibition

Have you ever felt the power of the mountains? And do you see the love and hope hidden in the flames of a wildfire? The "Re > Birth" exhibition by Teerasak Thanapattanakul invites us to question the connection between life and nature through sculptures made from ashes and firewood.

"Re > Birth" originates from the direct experience of the artist Teerasak Thanapattanakul, who lives closely with nature by hugging trees, looking up at the treetops, and spending time in the forest and mountains. He sees the power and truth of nature in every rhythm of life and is inspired by the image of a mountain burned by fire—an event that can be both sorrowful and a new beginning.

The artist believes that even though a wildfire destroys the forest, beneath the ashes there is still small life ready to sprout leaves. Extinction is not the end but a cycle of life connected to human love and hope in caring for nature.

The works in this exhibition are displayed in two main sections at TAY Songwat.

On the 2nd floor, the artist recreates a large stainless steel mountain suspended in the middle of the room. Inside the mountain are piles of firewood, charcoal, branches, and small ceramic animal figures. Visitors can use flashlights to explore as if entering a burned forest. Impressively, beneath the charcoal, small seedlings emerge, reflecting the concept of rebirth in extinction. When we look closely, we may see "life" that has never truly been destroyed.

On the 3rd floor, the space is filled with black firewood, but inside there are pink flowers, symbols of love and rebirth. Visitors can pick up water bottles to spray and nurture hope to grow. This floor lets us experience the hot, stifling atmosphere under the roof, intentionally designed by the artist to let us feel the heat of a wildfire and question in our hearts: when everything is burned down, will we still have love and faith in nature?

This exhibition does not just talk about wildfires but brings us back to the heart of nature that still beats amid loss and invites us to love and care for the forest again. We will see that "loss" may not be the end but the beginning of questioning, restoration, and passing on hope.
