Wat Devarajkunchorn: A Gem of Rattanakosin

Wat Devarajkunchorn Voraviharn is an ancient temple with a long history. Originally known as "Wat Samorai," it is believed to have been built during the Ayutthaya period. Later, during the reign of King Rama III, the temple underwent major renovations, and King Nangklao (Rama III) bestowed it with the new name "Wat Devarajkunchorn," which means "Temple of the King of the Divine Realm."

The beauty of this temple reflects the distinctive characteristics of early Rattanakosin art. The grand ordination hall (ubosot) is perfectly proportioned, adorned with intricate stucco designs. Its walls are decorated with murals that delicately narrate the life of the Buddha. The principal Buddha image, "Phra Buddha Deva Vilas," is one of the most elegant and majestic Buddha statues in Bangkok.

When the afternoon sunlight touches the golden spire atop the roof of the ordination hall, the soft reflections resemble a heavenly glow, giving the temple an aura of both sanctity and refinement.
