Evening walk review of Shichahai

Shichahai is a highly recommended place to visit if you want to experience Beijing in a slow and gentle way. It is easy to walk, you don't need to plan much, just let yourself walk along the cool breeze and the atmosphere of the old city. I assure you that it will be much more comfortable than you think.

We started from Houhai Lake, one of the three lakes in this area. In the evening, the weather is nice, the wind is cool, local people come out to sit and play, walk dogs, ride bicycles, very chill. The atmosphere is quiet but not lonely.

Both sides of the road are full of teahouses, chic cafes, local Chinese restaurants, or you can take a paddle boat to see the view. If you come as a couple, I recommend it. The atmosphere is very romantic.

A little further down is the Drum Tower, an important landmark of this area, used to tell the time in the past. If anyone has energy, I recommend going up to see the view from above. You will see both Houhai Lake and the network of Hutongs that are beautifully lined up.

Finally, walk into the alleys of the Hutong. The atmosphere is quiet, you will see the real life of Beijingers in real life. There are old houses, bicycle shops, small hidden cafes.
