📍Beijing Day 1 | Mutianyu Great Wall & Summer Palace

The Great Wall! This place only appears in textbooks, but I never thought I'd actually conquer it. Having just arrived in Beijing the night before, we headed straight to our hardcore adventure the next day 💪:

In the morning, we tackled the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. It was less crowded, the scenery was beautiful, and the incline was steep. "Hero's Slope" is no joke; my legs were shaking 😅 But the scenery was absolutely spectacular. Even though there were people in the background, I still had to snap away 📸. This is the Great Wall!

Before coming to Beijing, I had no idea how hot it would be in summer. Climbing the Great Wall in 40°C, my husband got a heat stroke first 🥵. I spent the next half hour climbing with my son, who was incredibly excited. Kids are truly stamina-boosting. The only downside was that we didn't get to ride the slide down the wall. We took the cable car up and down, which was also fantastic.

In the afternoon, we visited the Summer Palace, which is four times the size of the Forbidden City. We took a boat tour of Kunming Lake and walked through the world's longest gallery. The paintings on the ceiling each have their own significance, while the guide explained the history of the Qing Dynasty. It was a truly atmospheric experience! We joined a small group of 12, all foreigners, so the entire tour was in English, which served as a listening test for my son. 🎧 He understood about 80% of what he said, which was pretty good. 👏

🔥The weather was 40 degrees Celsius, so scorching hot it was almost unbelievable, but it was such a deep and fulfilling day, so worth it!

✅Tips
• Mutianyu is less crowded than Badaling, and the scenery is more pristine, but the slopes are more challenging.
• I highly recommend the small English tour; it's informative, interactive, and a great way to practice English.
• Remember to wear sunscreen and drink plenty of water! Otherwise, you could get a heat stroke.
