The Forbidden City (Chinese: Gùgōng, 故宫), officially known as the Imperial Palace Museum, is a magnificent palace complex located at the very center of Beijing, China. It served as the imperial residence and political heart of China for almost five centuries, from 1420 to 1912, during the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1644–1912) dynasties.
