Berlin at Christmas: A City of Light and Christmas spirit

In December, Berlin transforms into a winter wonderland where history, culture, and festive cheer intertwine. The city’s Christmas markets glow with fairy lights, the scent of mulled wine and roasted almonds drifting through crisp air. From the grand Gendarmenmarkt to smaller neighbourhood stalls, each offers its own charm.
The majestic Berliner Dom rises over Museum Island, while just across the Spree, the Reichstag — with its striking glass dome — stands beside the sleek modern parliament buildings.
The Brandenburg Gate, draped in festive lights, frames the city’s grand boulevard.
For a touch of the cosmic, the astronomical clock and the towering Fernsehturm (TV Tower) remind visitors that Berlin’s gaze is both to the past and the future.
And no stroll through the city is complete without spotting the cheerful Ampelmännchen — the iconic East German pedestrian traffic light figure — whose jaunty hat and brisk stride are beloved symbols of Berlin life.
