Blooming Valleys of Bhutan’s Punakha in Spring

Punakha, Bhutan, was an unexpected spring highlight. As we crossed the Punakha Suspension Bridge—one of the longest in the country—colorful prayer flags fluttered beside blooming purple jacarandas and mustard fields. The majestic Punakha Dzong stood at the confluence of two rivers, its white walls framed by blossoms. We joined locals for a traditional meal of ema datshi (chili cheese) and wandered the serene temple gardens. Spring in Bhutan isn’t just beautiful—it’s spiritual, peaceful, and humbling in the best way.
