Arriving in Kotor by cruise ship is one of those “wow” moments — the sail-in alone is worth waking up early for. The ship glides through dramatic fjord-like mountains before docking just a few minutes’ walk from the medieval old town, or your ship may dock in the Bay of Kotor... so you'll be treated to a beautiful tender boat ride to reach Kotor port.
Kotor is incredibly easy to explore on foot. Once you step through the stone gates, you’re surrounded by narrow cobbled streets, hidden courtyards, and honey-coloured buildings with red-tiled roofs. It’s compact but full of charm — every turn seems to reveal a cat lounging on a wall or a tiny café tucked away under an archway.
We started by entering via the Sea Gate and admiring the clock tower. We headed straight for lunch because everyone was hungry and the rain was starting. We enjoyed lunch in the square beside Bizanti Palace.
There’s a relaxed, timeless feel here — the kind of place where you don’t need a plan, just time to explore and soak up the atmosphere. That is exactly what we did next - we wandered through more cobbled streets and out of the River Gate to explore a beautiful spot by the Ladder of Kotor.
Kotor is one of the most walkable and photogenic ports in the Adriatic. You can easily fill a few hours here before strolling back to the ship via beautiful gardens and bridges with more spectacular views.
