A former Soviet Union country, Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬
Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, is located in Central Asia.
- Ala-Too Square: This expansive square from the Soviet era is situated in the city center. At the heart of the square stands a massive Kyrgyz national flag guarded by ceremonial soldiers!
→ On weekends, you can witness the changing of the guard ceremony. Photography is allowed, making it a highly recommended spot!
- Mosques and Churches: The city is home to the Bishkek Central Mosque, the largest mosque in Central Asia. Although I couldn’t enter during my visit, its beauty was awe-inspiring even from the outside...
Additionally, the city features other mosques and Russian Orthodox churches, offering a chance to explore various architectural styles.
For souvenirs, Kyrgyz honey is highly recommended. While it costs between 2,000 to 12,000 yen in Japan, you can buy it for around 300 yen in the city or 750 yen at the airport!
→ Note ⚠️ Honey is considered a liquid, so make sure to pack it in your checked luggage. I had all my honey confiscated during transit...
