Changsha North Star InterContinental Hotel Stay Experience: A Quality Choice Combining Classics and Details
Although the hotel has been open since 2014 (11 years to date), its quality remains outstanding. Located in Kaifu District, northern Changsha, adjacent to the North Star Delta, it's just a 10-minute walk to the subway station, making transportation extremely convenient. The Joy City shopping mall built by the owner is right downstairs, easily meeting all daily needs for shopping and dining.
I called ahead to inform the hotel it was my birthday, and was pleasantly upgraded to a twin river view room upon check-in, receiving a red velvet dessert (slightly too sweet but full of thoughtful intention). The welcome fruit platter featured vibrant colors that caught the eye. The room was well-maintained with excellent cleanliness, showing signs of age but no outdated feel. The Philips sound system delivered superb audio, and the TV supported screen mirroring (though there was a brief WiFi hiccup). While lacking a coffee machine, the minibar was well-stocked, complete with Twinings tea bags and two Milangold drip coffee bags - thoughtful details.
In the bedroom, the spacious work desk facilitated productivity, while the window-side sofa offered a perfect spot for river views. The bathroom featured Duravit fixtures with a practical single-sink design. Ample towels were provided, along with eco-friendly wooden toothbrushes, Colgate toothpaste kits (including considerate dental floss), and pre-placed disposable razors. The full set of Byredo amenities showcased quality, and the bathtub's size comfortably accommodated my 176cm frame with legroom. Evening turndown service prepared the room beautifully, complete with a fragrant sachet gift.
The dining experience was exceptional. The lounge on the 27th floor shares space with Sky 27 Bar, offering panoramic views and all-day soft drinks ranging from fresh coffee to Perrier and Voss water. With ample staff, the lounge provided near one-to-one service. Afternoon tea featured exquisite plating with scones, sweets, and savory bites; during happy hour, four hot dishes, two mains with fried snacks, and charcuterie were complemented by memorable cakes and puddings. The bar shone with a professional mixologist preparing ten classic cocktails, plus eight red/white wines and three sparkling options including Chandon - a paradise for oenophiles. The Blues Restaurant breakfast impressed with diverse offerings, warm seating service, and a ceremonial bow farewell from four staff members upon departure, with breads, steamed delicacies, and cold cuts stimulating appetites.
✅ Soundproofing/Hygiene: Overall cleanliness maintained excellent standards with spotless rooms; soundproofing performed well under normal circumstances, with prompt resolution of any issues.
🏘️ Room Type/Layout: The upgraded twin river view room had rational space planning - a spacious work desk in the bedroom and ideal riverside sofa positioning; the bathroom was fully functional with a versatile tub size.
🛌 Amenities/Facilities: Outstanding Philips audio system with screen-mirroring TV; well-stocked minibar with thoughtful tea/coffee provisions; Duravit fixtures and Byredo toiletries demonstrated quality (though lacking smart toilet, bathroom details were thorough), plus professional lounge and restaurant facilities.
💗 Additional tips: Lounge beverages are abundant - beverage enthusiasts should indulge; Blues Restaurant breakfast is highly recommended, observe staff etiquette upon departure; confirm minibar charges beforehand; report room facility issues promptly for quick resolution.
