Changsha/Yang Kaihui Memorial Hall

Yang Kaihui was Mao Zedong's wife, and they had three sons. She died at the young age of 29 after refusing to betray the revolution. The Yang Kaihui Memorial Hall is located in Kaihui Town, Changsha County (named after her), the place where she grew up.

The memorial hall tells the story of her leadership in the revolution. Next to it is Yang Kaihui's martyrs' tomb and a cenotaph for Mao Anying (Mao Zedong's son), as he died in the Korean War.

The Yang Kaihui Memorial Hall itself isn't crowded, but you need to drive there. There are wax figures of her and Mao Zedong in their youth; it was the first time I'd seen Mao Zedong as a young man. The memorial hall isn't very large; you can see everything in half an hour to an hour.
