Chiangmai in August, during the low season, takes on a different charm with its rainy and wet weather. While frequent rain showers keep the city soaked, the reduced crowds create a peaceful atmosphere, giving it a unique, serene vibe. The mist and fog that hang over the city add an ethereal touch, especially in the early mornings and evenings. With umbrellas in hand, it’s easy to embrace the intermittent rain as you explore the quieter streets and attractions.
For a more sheltered experience, shopping at One Nimman provides a great escape from the weather, offering boutique shops and local crafts under one roof. If you’re interested in Chiangmai’s rich culture, a visit to the Lanna Folk Museum near the Three Kings Monument is a perfect way to spend time indoors while learning about the city’s history.
Mornings in Chiangmai are particularly charming in August, with Jing Jai Market offering a cloudy, cool atmosphere ideal for strolling through the market stalls, picking up fresh produce, and enjoying the laid-back vibe.
For a breath of fresh, cool air, head up to Doi Suthep. The mountain offers not only a welcome respite from the city heat but also stunning views and the chance to marvel at the golden stupas of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep.
If you have extra time and enjoy outdoor experiences, a trip to Mon Jam is a must. I recommend staying at Phu Morinn Camping, where I stayed. The foggy weather and stunning views make it a perfect spot for those who love nature. The campsite is also home to avocado trees planted by the owners, adding a special touch to the experience.
