Akha Ama was founded by Lee from the Akha ethnic minority in northern Thailand. He opened a coffee shop to improve the quality of life of his people. The coffee beans are grown by the Akha people.
Akha Ama not only has a branch in Chiang Mai, it also has a branch in Tokyo, Japan. All the baristas at the Tokyo branch were trained in Chiang Mai, bringing the leisurely atmosphere of northern Thailand to the bustling city of a foreign country.
