On my recent trip to Chiang Mai, I made sure to visit a truly atmospheric ancient temple – Wat Lok Moli (洛莫里寺). Unlike the bustling Wat Phra Singh or Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Lok Moli felt so much more serene and solemn, absolutely brimming with a sense of historical grandeur.
This temple's history dates all the way back to the 14th century, making it one of the significant temples of the Lanna Kingdom. What truly captivated me was its tall, majestic brick chedi (pagoda). It looked incredibly ancient and weathered, and with the blue sky and white clouds as a backdrop, it was absolutely stunning for photos!
Why I Recommend Wat Lok Moli:
Fewer Crowds: It’s ideal if you want to quietly soak in the temple's peaceful ambiance without throngs of tourists.
Ancient & Photogenic Chedi: The old, magnificent pagoda is a dream for photographers.
Convenient Location: It’s not far from Chiang Mai's Old City, making it easy to access.
Free Entry: Visiting the temple is free, perfect for a half-day itinerary.
My Top Tips for Visiting:
Go in the Morning: The lighting is perfect then – you'll get great photos with the sun behind you, and it's not too hot.
Dress Respectfully: Remember to wear appropriate attire to show respect for the local culture.
Combine with Nearby Spots: You can easily head to the trendy Nimmanhaemin Road or MAYA Lifestyle Shopping Center afterward for more exploring!
Wat Lok Moli is a true hidden gem for anyone seeking a more authentic and quiet temple experience in Chiang Mai.
