Great Places to Take Kids Near Shanghai Within 2 Hours
I finally found a great place to take kids near Shanghai, just about two hours away - Qiandao Lake!
🚄Only about 2 hours from Hongqiao to Qiandao Lake Station by train, then a 30-minute drive to the hotel
🚗About 4 hours to reach the hotel by car, with free parking for guests and EV charging stations available
🏨Qiandao Lake New Century Resort
🏊♀️Swimming pools: both indoor and outdoor
A one-stop destination for kids who absolutely love it. There's a small animal park with deer 🦌, goats 🐐 (seems like more than one type), alpacas 🦙, rabbits 🐰, squirrels 🐿️, guinea pigs, ponies 🐎, and peacocks 🦚. You can feed them and sometimes pet them if they're in a good mood 😂.
There's also a children's play area with climbing walls, zip lines... lots of fun activities. Just playing inside the resort could easily fill two days. Both the children's play area and animal park are located by the lake, making the environment relatively secluded and safer than more open parks.
They also have an indoor children's play area, but that requires an additional fee. Everything else is free. This is quite nice, comparable to hotels in Sanya.
We stayed in an RV with two bedrooms. The interior was a bit cramped, but it had all the basic amenities, and showering wasn't an issue. It's quiet at night, though you might hear peacocks in the morning depending on where they roam, as they're free-range.
My favorite part was that the RV was right by the lake, and you could see the sunset over the water through the windows. Watching the sunset from this angle was really special. It gave me a romantic feeling of wandering the world.
But... the RV windows were covered in bird droppings, which really affected the view. And while you're supposed to be able to see stars, there were light strips next to the RV, so you couldn't see anything. Fortunately, the lights are only on from 5:30-22:00. Since we couldn't stay up that late with the kids, we unfortunately missed seeing the stars.
This was my first time staying in an RV, and the room did feel a bit narrow. The good thing is that the children's play area is within the RV park area and has specific opening hours, so before opening and after closing, it becomes an exclusive space for RV residents - no crowds, and kids can play to their heart's content. Happy 😃
