Brave the Grand Canyon! Grand Canyon Self-Drive and Yavapai Lodge Experience

Taking advantage of the still-warm weather in early April, we decided to visit Grand Canyon National Park. Departing from Phoenix, our destination was to explore several hiking trails and viewpoints along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, and stay overnight at Yavapai Lodge within the canyon. Due to some unexpected incidents along the way, we didn't arrive until 9 PM on our scheduled check-in day. Fortunately, we'd taken the advice of a friend with extensive national park experience and stocked up on plenty of water and food at a supermarket beforehand; otherwise, we wouldn't have been able to find any food in the Grand Canyon at that time!

Despite the travel inconveniences that left us exhausted upon arrival, the cabins at Yavapai Lodge were incredibly comfortable. After getting our room cards and finding our rooms on our first night, everyone slept soundly and peacefully. The next morning, we were pleasantly surprised to see the stunning outdoor scenery as we opened the curtains. The previous night, with no light pollution, we had no idea what the surroundings looked like! The still-melted snow outside made the kids super excited, and both adults and children couldn't wait to begin their Grand Canyon exploration. In the morning, you can grab a bite to eat at the Starbucks near Yavapai Lodge, but be prepared: the food here is expensive and not very good. Even the Starbucks tastes different than elsewhere! This proves our friend's advice to pack plenty of food was spot on!

There are several shuttle routes connecting the main viewpoints and hiking trails within the Grand Canyon. The most popular Mather Point is very close to the visitor center. That day, we drove to the visitor center and then took a leisurely walk there, making it easy to reach without the shuttle. Even in the morning, it was already packed with tourists, and the views were truly magnificent! Once you've snapped enough photos, you can hop on a shuttle to explore the more distant viewpoints. This is pretty much the same route for the entire trip! After visiting the observation deck, I felt a bit tired. I highly recommend visiting the Geological Museum on the Orange Line. The museum explains the formation of the Grand Canyon through models and text, giving visitors a deeper understanding of the area while enjoying the stunning views.
