My recent trip to Bicol was initially for work, but thanks to a handy travel app, I was able to make the most of my free time and explore some of the region’s iconic spots.
First stop: Daraga Church – famous for its stunning baroque architecture and breathtaking views of Mayon Volcano in the distance. This centuries-old church is not just a place of worship, but also a piece of history that tells the story of Bicol’s faith and resilience.
Next, I visited the Cagsawa Ruins – known for the bell tower that survived the 1814 eruption of Mayon Volcano. It’s both a scenic and solemn reminder of nature’s beauty and power, and one of the most photographed landmarks in the Philippines.
Finally, I dropped by Farm Plate, a charming agri-tourism spot known for its farm-to-table experience and refreshing countryside ambiance. It’s the perfect place to unwind, enjoy fresh local food, and take in the relaxing rural scenery.
The highlight of my trip was seeing Mayon Volcano for the first time. Its perfectly symmetrical cone is truly a natural wonder, and I now understand why it’s so famous—it’s simply breathtaking in person.
Work brought me to Bicol, but the beauty, history, and culture of the region made me want to come back purely for leisure. If you’re planning a trip, make sure these places are on your list!
