I recently returned from a family trip to Chongzuo and Baise in Guangxi, and I have to say these two places are seriously underrated treasures! The sense of awe there surpasses New Zealand, and after experiencing it myself, I feel it was totally worth it!
🌊 There are many must-visit magical spots here, each frame looks like a blockbuster scene.
1. Detian Waterfall: Photos can’t even capture one-tenth of the real scene. When you ride a bamboo raft toward the waterfall, the mist instantly hits your face, and the rushing water crashes into the deep pool like a stampede, the roar syncing with your heartbeat. From the left bank, you can see the smoke curling from Vietnamese villages; from the right bank, the lush Chinese peaks. Experiencing two countries in one glance is truly unique. Visit during the high water season from June to August for the best views!
2. Mingshi Pastoral: Cycling along the pastoral paths feels like stepping into a landscape painting. The scent of rice fills the air, karst peaks reflect in the water, and every frame looks like an oil painting. Staying here means opening your window to a fairyland.
3. Baise Sinkhole Cluster: These sinkholes are like the "pupils" of the earth. Standing on the Yunhai Tianzhou viewing platform, there’s a bottomless abyss beneath your feet. Thrilling and magnificent, every snapshot is epic, like a real-life "Zelda."
4. Buliu River Fairy Bridge: Riding a bamboo raft through the rainforest, you might encounter wild monkeys and birds, giving a full Amazon adventure vibe. The kids were excited and screaming the whole time.
5. Cloud Secret Realm: Longyun Mountain Tea Garden sits at 1,314 meters elevation. Staying in the clouds lets you watch the sunset over the karst landscape—romantic to the extreme. Early risers can catch the sunrise with rolling sea of clouds atop the myriad peaks.
6. White-headed Leaf Monkey Reserve: These "stone mountain spirits" are rarer than pandas worldwide.
🏡 Accommodation Recommendations:
✔️ Chongzuo Lishi: A hidden paradise embraced by mountains and waters, with top-notch service. Perfect for families wanting to fully relax while enjoying the view.
✔️ Mingshi Elegant Residence: Located in the heart of Mingshi Pastoral, with scenic views right outside the window and cycling right at your doorstep. Super convenient.
✔️ Zaiye Camping Collection: Unique mushroom-shaped houses that catch the eye, with rich family-friendly facilities. Kids don’t want to leave once inside.
✔️ Dayan Slope: Elevated location with an infinity pool and wide-open views, perfect for stunning photos. Moms, don’t miss this one.
✔️ Changliu Mountain Residence: Close to Tongna Yu Bay, newly opened with great facilities and high cost performance.
📍 5 Days 4 Nights Family Highlights Itinerary (Tested and super smooth):
Day 1: Nanning pick-up → Explore White-headed Leaf Monkeys → Check in at Mingshi Pastoral (Elegant Residence/Lishi)
Day 2: Detian Waterfall → China-Vietnam Style Street → Cycling in Mingshi Pastoral → Stay at Lishi/Elegant Residence
Day 3: Scenic drive along Hena Expressway → Haokun Lake → Head to Longyun Mountain Tea Garden for sunset → Stay at Tea Garden
Day 4: Buliu River bamboo rafting → Dashiwai Sinkhole (Yunhai Tianzhou + afternoon tea) → Camp at 1466 Site
Day 5: Sinkhole sea of clouds sunrise → Light adventure at Shenmu Sinkhole → Huomai Village folk experience → Baise drop-off
💡 Practical Tips:
Transportation: Attractions are quite spread out, so chartering a car or joining a private tour is most convenient. Entry and exit from Nanning or Baise are both flexible.
Accommodation: Popular hotels like Lishi and Elegant Residence must be booked in advance; rooms are hard to get during peak season.
Family-friendly: Activities like cycling, bamboo rafting, monkey watching, and sinkhole exploring are moderate in intensity, so kids have fun without getting tired.
Weather: Guangxi is rainy, so bring rain gear; don’t forget sunscreen and mosquito repellent.
